The area of Windmill Hill is peaceful and safe. The traffic through the area is seldom, and neighbors are friendly and peaceful. The homes in the community are single-family homes with HOA. Some of your yard work will be taken care of for you, and the yards are already clean-cut, so there’s not a lot of upkeep. When you drive into the subdivision on your way home, the lake is in the backdrop giving you an incredible water view to enjoy every day.
Many of the homes in Windmill Hill are perfect for entertaining. You will be happy to find spacious backyards and patios on the backside of homes and courtyards in the front of homes. Inside, there are vaulted ceilings giving plenty of space and breathing room. Kitchens welcome you with plenty of moving room to whip up your favorite dishes and sides for family meals and parties. The breakfast bars are great for when the kids wake up in the morning ready to eat before school. The large backyards and patios can be used for total relaxation with a couple of chairs, books, shade, and a small table for coffee or tea. On the other hand, the space can be sued just as well for parties and small get-togethers. The girls can drink wine on cushioned seats around the bonfire, and the guys can have a few beers around the grill. There are fireplaces in the homes for those cold Texas nights. The bedrooms are spacious, and bathrooms are serene. Many homes feature an abundance of built-ins for optimal storage throughout the home and in the garage.
A lot of fun can be had in the comfort of your home on the lakeshore, but what is there to do outside of the home? Well, first I’ll state the obvious. Lake Waco is your neighbor. Head to the lake for camping, fishing, swimming in designated areas, and boating. A bit further from the house, you have the Cameron Park Zoo, several parks and playgrounds, Hawaiian Falls, the Waco Mammoth National Monument, Hawaiian Falls, and more. All of this fun is just a short drive away. The Waco National Monument was just designated as a new unit of the National Park System by President Barack Obama in July of 2015. Guided tours take place every thirty minutes and last about forty-five minutes to an hour. The tour guides take you on a rare journey through history to see mammoth fossils in their original position with the bone bed. The tour will teach you about the Ice Age and how the fossils were found. This monument is one of the most significant paleontological finds on the continent because it represents the only recorded finding of a nursery herd of Columbian Mammoths in the nation! If you like historical sites and ancient finds, you will love visiting this place.
Cameron Park Zoo is a fun habitat for all ages to explore and enjoy. Get away from the electronics for a moment to remember what nature has created. Discover things you never knew about some of your favorite animals. Connect with the creatures of the Earth for a day, or even an afternoon. It’s nice to get in touch with nature every now and then. You could do it as often as you like with the affordability. Explore a day in the life of lions, otters, bats, orangutans, and more. If it gets too hot during the day to enjoy the zoo as much as you’d like, head over to Hawaiian Falls. Hawaiian Falls is a local waterpark with slides, a wave pool, a lazy river, and more. A snack bar is available with hot dogs, nachos, burgers, pickles, and loads of junk food to satisfy your guilty cravings. Dive into the water for a day of fun in the sun.
If the snack bar doesn’t satisfy what you are looking for, head over to one of many restaurants Waco has to offer. Right across the river, you’ll find a cute restaurant called Manny’s on the River. Manny’s serves delicious Mexican food, including fish tacos, carne asada, enchiladas, and margaritas for days. Other places across the river include D and J’s Seafood Restaurant, Tony DeMaria’s Bar-B-Que, Jasper’s BBQ, B C Lee’s Drive Inn, and Real Deal. Then, on the same side of the river as the Cameron Park Zoo, you have Kitok Restaurant, D’s Mediterranean Grill, San Diego Restaurant, Dubl-R Old Fashioned Hamburgers, and so much more. The food options are truly endless, so try something new each time you go.
