In just a short nine-minute drive, you can find Waco’s most popular park. Cameron Park is next to downtown Waco full of towering trees, rivers, playgrounds, a unique staircase featuring 100 steps to the top, a trail system and gorgeous cliffs. Locals love to come to this park to celebrate with family, friends, and neighbors during parties, festivals, and sport events all year round. The park is great for most outdoor activities including fishing, hiking, jogging, biking, kite flying, picnics, and more! Another great adventure just nine minutes from Chimney Hill is the Cameron Park Zoo. Cameron Park Zoo is a very affordable natural zoo habitat. General admission for adults is only $10. Bring the entire family for a day of fun with the lions, tigers, and bears living in Waco.
There’s plenty of delicious food to eat at the zoo in the Plaza Cafe and Treetops Cafe, but if you’re looking for something to eat closer to home, you can grab some delicious Texas BBQ at Kelly’s Bar-B-Que. Kelly’s brings you what the south is known for with meals like: Bar-B-Que Brisket, Texas Style Sliced or Chopped Bar-B-Que, Chili, and other Texas-style smoked meats. The smell outside will make your mouth water before you get a chance to see what’s on the menu!
If you prefer to eat at home, there are several grocery stores nearby to help keep your fridge, pantry, and cabinets stocked full of nutritious meals and sinful snacks. These grocery stores include Schwan Food Company, H-E-B, Sam’s Club, Frugal’s Grocery Outlet, two Walmart Supercenters at about the same distance away from Chimney Hills in either direction (northeast and southeast). There are also dollar stores, convenience stores, and Da Shack Farmers Market.
Waco has a quite a few shopping centers for errands and shopping sprees, as well as Richland Mall. Richland Mall has all of your favorite go-to mall shops from JC Penney to Bath & Body Works. There are also restaurants like BJ’s Restaurant & Brewhouse and Olive Garden Italian Restaurant. If you love restaurants like these, the mall is a great place to go. Spend the afternoon shopping and stop for your favorite dinner on your way out. Closer to home is a more upscale restaurant called Red Barn. Red Barn serves delectable burgers, shellfish, salads, pasta, soups, desserts, and more! They had me at crème brulee.
There is something special about Chimney Hill that is hard to put your finger on. There’s a lot to love with the family-filled streets, four distinct seasons, colorful trees filling the roads with red orange and yellow, and mailboxes that match the Chimney Hill homes.
